Command Governors with Inexact Optimization and Without Invariance

Reference and command governors are add-on schemes that augment nominal closed-loop systems with the capability to enforce state control constraints. They do this by monitoring modifying, when necessary, reference command. Existing solving at each sampling time a quadratic programming problem find modified closest original such current pair constraint admissible. In paper, we show simple modification of basic governor enables it operate inexact optimization even without requiring invariance admissible set. Thus significantly extends applicability practical problems where finding invariant sets may be problematic exact not feasible due reliability optimizers or limited computing power. Numerical examples reported which illustrate approach.
